ABOUT THE AUTHOR

LUIS P. GATMAITAN is a physician, an author of over 80 books for children, a newspaper and magazine columnist, a recipient of seven Palanca Awards, and a Palanca Awards Hall of Fame awardee in 2005. He pioneered the popularization of medical and health themes through his children’s book series Mga Kuwento ni Tito Dok and Oki Dok. His children’s story Sandosenang Sapatos was mounted into a musical production by the Tanghalang Pilipino of the Cultural Center of the Philippines. He is honored with a Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas in 2017 and a Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award in 2003. He is the first Filipino author to be accepted as an official nominee to the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Awards for his body of work in Philippine children’s literature. He serves as Chairperson of the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT).
